FAQs About 2019 Creative Retreats for Writers
Complete information about each retreat will be sent to you upon completion of a Retreat Information Request Form, but here are the short answers to some common questions about my 2019 retreats for writers.
Do I have to be a published or professional writer to attend the 2019 retreats? No! Anyone interested in writing, aspiring to write, or who simply loves good writing is welcome to attend. It's your love for writing and your interest in possibly writing something (even if just for your own private viewing) that make you eligible to participate. We'll be doing writing activities as a group before lunch throughout the week, and all I ask is that you try them willingly.
Where do these amazing retreats take place? I'm not giving away too much, but I can tell you this: All 2019 retreats take place in Europe, somewhere in the gorgeous Alps. More details are found in your retreat information packet.
How much will it cost to get there? Obviously, that depends on where you will be arriving from. But there are a couple of international and regional airports in the vicinity, and the train station in town is on a major central European train route. Assistance is available for those who feel overwhelmed by travel planning.
How much does each retreat cost? Far less than you would think, for something this amazing. You actually have a range of price options because of the way I structure the retreats. I explain everything in each retreat information packet.
What is accommodation like? Accommodations vary, and the level of luxury you desire can be accommodated. I explain everything in each retreat information packet.
What if I have diet restrictions? No problem. All diets can be accommodated, within reason. The "I only eat freshly made bone-broth" diet would be tough to adhere to... although of all places in the world, this might be the best location for something like that! I explain everything in each retreat information packet.
Can my spouse/family/kids/partner/bestie come along? Yes, and I encourage it! Make this retreat a family experience, because this place is magical for everyone, including kids and adults of all ages. Plus, you can share the costs of accommodation, making the retreat even more affordable. Your spouse/family/kids/partner/bestie can only participate in retreat activities and outings, though, if he/she/they are (a) at least 18 years of age (or at least 40, for the 40+ retreat this year) and (b) each pay the retreat fee, too. I explain everything in each retreat information packet.
Do I need to be fit? No, but you should be able to spend at least 30 minutes, twice a day, on your feet, walking. Each retreat will feature an optional full day of outdoor activity as well, but it is not strenuous or dangerous, and it will only take place in good weather. And the yoga and mindfulness retreat will require that you be able to sit, stand, or lie down on the floor several hours a day. There is a good public transit network in the area, and taxis are very easy to call and inexpensive to use in the area, when necessary. Bottom line: It's easy to get around, no matter your level of fitness, and you need NOT have any yoga experience at all to get along great at the yoga and mindfulness retreat.
Must I know how to do yoga or meditate? Not at all. You just have to be willing to learn some yoga, meditation, and/or mindfulness techniques and practices that I have learned are great for helping my writing along. These are quite basic and I have selected them as effective means to tap into your creativity and help you get over difficulties with your writing. A flexible body or any yoga/meditation experience is NOT required!
How much time each day will I be able to devote to my writing? Almost as much as you want. I say "almost" because 4 out of the 5 weekdays during each retreat, we will meet mid-morning for group activities, and in addition, the yoga and mindfulness retreat will have dedicated (you guessed it) group yoga and meditation activities at least 45 minutes each afternoon.
If you're working on a specific project and want to use this week to get away from noise at home and just write, you'll be able to do that most afternoons and every evening during the week. For those of you who are not currently writing something and are looking for guidance and methods to be inspired and gain confidence to begin, I have compiled a whole collection of effective practices available to to help you get over the hump and get writing. You can choose each afternoon to engage in guided activities with me and other attendees, or grab one of the "do it yourself" activities and go it alone. The whole week is really flexible. I explain everything in the information packet for each retreat.
What do I need to bring? I give you a list in your information packet, and you can ask me when we talk if you are concerned about bringing anything specific.
How do I ask my specific question? After you receive and read through the information packet for your retreat, we'll speak together via phone or video chat, and then you can ask me anything you want. I'm looking forward to getting to know you and welcoming you here as my guest!
